João Francisco Távora has a degree in Early Music from the Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo, Porto, in the class of Professor Pedro Sousa Silva. He is studying for a master’s degree in Early Music at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater „Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy“, in Leipzig, in the class of Professor Robert Ehrlich.

He collaborates with the Lachrymae Ensemble (Leipzig) and Arte Minima, an ensemble specializing in Portuguese Renaissance music. With the same ensemble, he participated in the recording of 3 more albums, with music by Francisco de Santa Maria and Vicente Lusitano. In 2023 he recorded his first solo album, dedicated to the music for recorder by G. P. Telemann. In the 2023/24 artistic season he will tour Germany and Belgium with the Gewandhausorchester (Leipzig) and will present a series of concerts around the music of J. S. Bach, which will culminate in the recording of a 2nd solo recording.

He is co-artistic director and founding member of the Musurgia Ensemble, an ensemble dedicated to the interpretation and dissemination of Portuguese and European music from the 16th to 18th centuries.

João Francisco Távora hat einen Abschluss in Alter Musik an der Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo, Porto, in der Klasse von Professor Pedro Sousa Silva. Er studiert im Masterstudiengang Alte Musik an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” in Leipzig in der Klasse von Professor Robert Ehrlich.

Er arbeitet mit dem Lachrymae Ensemble (Leipzig) und Arte Minima zusammen, einem auf portugiesische Renaissancemusik spezialisierten Ensemble. Mit demselben Ensemble nahm er drei weitere Alben mit Musik von Francisco de Santa Maria und Vicente Lusitano auf. Im Jahr 2023 nahm er sein erstes Soloalbum auf, das der Musik für Blockflöte von G. P. Telemann gewidmet ist. In der künstlerischen Saison 2023/24 wird er mit dem Gewandhausorchester (Leipzig) durch Deutschland und Belgien touren und eine Reihe von Konzerten rund um die Musik von J. S. Bach präsentieren, die in der Aufnahme eines zweiten Soloalbums gipfeln wird.

Er ist Co-Künstlerischer Leiter und Gründungsmitglied des Musurgia-Ensembles, eines Ensembles, das sich der Interpretation und Verbreitung portugiesischer und europäischer Musik des 16. bis 18. Jahrhunderts.
